..save the planet, go on holiday!
5 June is World Environment Day. What have you done today to reduce your carbon footprint? I’ve recycled a load of office paper and old brochures.
When you’re on holiday – try and be environmentally friendly as well.
• You could buy local produce – including local foods, crafts and souvenirs.
• Use local transport – get to know the locals on the buses!
• Don’t hire a car – hire bikes instead – great way to get a tan (don’t forget the sunscreen though).
• Travel by rail instead of by plane (and possibly save some money as well).
• Plant a tree to neutralise your carbon emissions.
• Use local sunlight instead of electric lights, hand held fans and the summer breezes instead of air conditioning.
• What else can you suggest?
We can book your next environmentally friendly holiday. Why not try
• Touring Europe by train – with Eurostar to Paris or Brussels and then onwards on the European rail network
• Cycling or walking holidays in Europe and beyond
• Explore the rainforest and learn more about bio-diversity in countries such as Costa Rica.
• Book a holiday with a tour operator who works with local environment projects in their destination countries
• Trek into deepest Africa to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat
• Volunteer trips - a hands-on holiday that gives you the opportunity to help improve the basic living conditions of local people and contribute to environmental and wildlife conservation.
